When I was in 4th grade, I had a wonderful teacher, Mrs. McNabb. She loved writing and words and encouraged us to write daily in notebooks that we passed back and forth with her. She had gorgeous, cake-icing handwriting and was always ready with a kind word. She soothed even the most rambunctious children in our class. Mrs. McNabb and I kept in touch for years after I left her classroom, I wrote her letters and heard from her every year on my birthday. When I entered education as a teacher myself, she remained my inspiration.
